<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress the cost of a product by condensing light emitted from a plurality of light sources without using a dichroic mirror or the like. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The projection type display device 10 includes: a plurality of light sources 12 which emit light modulated according to image signal; a collimator lens 14 which transforms the light from the plurality of light sources into light beams parallel to one another; a condensing means which condenses the plurality of transformed light beams onto substantially the same optical axis; a reflection mirror 18 which reflects the condensed light to rise up; and a variable angle mirror 20 as an optical scanning means which two-dimensionally scans the reflected light on a face to be scanned. Particularly, the condensing means includes a condenser lens 16 (a beam expander composed of a lens 16a and a lens 16b) which squeezes the distances of the transformed light beams to condense the plurality of light beams on substantially the same optical axis.
