A composition, capable of being formed into an article, consists of a blend of preformed polystyrene and preformed polyphenylene oxide of formula where n is an integer greater than 100, R and R<SP>1</SP> are H, or a hydrocarbon or hydrocarbonoxy radical free of a tertiaryα-carbon atom, or a halohydrocarbon or halohydrocarbonoxy radical having at least 2 carbon atoms between the halogen atom and phenol nucleus and being free of a tertiaryα-carbon atom. In an example, poly - (2,6 - dimethyl - 1,4 - phenylene) - oxide and crystalline or high-impact polystyrene were mixed and extruded to form strands which were cut into pellets and moulded into a bar. |
