The method involves taking combined magnetic and/or electrical measurement at a position of a substrate (2) by static and dynamic measurement processes, where the position is distanced from a substrate covering layer (1). A determination is made whether a relation between measurements corresponds with a reference relation, and a deviation is detected when the substrate is varied. Thickness of the covering layer is associated to measurement values, where calibration layers are arranged on the covering layer with preset thickness. An independent claim is also included for a measuring device for measuring electrical and/or magnetic fields at a substrate covering layer of a substrate.
