The method involves controlling a motor (12) e.g. alternating current motor, which is provided for lifting a load (14). The motor is rotated by movement of the load during discontinuity of supply voltage of a drive device (10). Feedback voltage is produced. The feedback voltage is returned into the drive device such that lower transistors (28, 30, 32) of a power inverter (20) are switched on. Armature short-circuit is triggered during switching on the lower transistors. Three phase alternating current voltage is rectified as the feedback voltage. An independent claim is also included for a drive device for a motor.
