<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lighting device and a projection-type display device which are improved in illuminance, hardly malfunction, and have a long service life. <P>SOLUTION: Lighting devices 11r and 11g are used for illuminating a lighted region, and equipped with light sources 12r and 12g emitting light and heat sinks 13p and 13q dissipating heat released from the light sources 12r and 12g.
