Production of propoxylated products containing phosphorous through use of aluminium trichloride

Preparation of low acid content phosphorus-containing propoxylation products (I) of specific isomer ratio, by reacting phosphorus tri- and/or oxyhalides (II) with alkylene oxides (III) involves (a) continuously reacting (II) with aluminum chloride, (b) (dis)continuously transferring the product into a reactor to be reacted with (III) and (c) subjecting the product to simple washing with alkali metal hydroxide solution after removing excess (III). Independent claims are included for: (1) the product (I) obtained by the process; and (2) the use of aluminum chloride in the production of (I) by the present process.
