An intake system for an internal combustion engine, includes a rotary valve including a casing (1) provided with a first port (11), a second port (12) and an outlet port (13), and a rotatable valve member (2) accommodated in the casing (1) and rotated by an actuator, a first intake passage (3) fluidically connecting a surge tank (6) and the first port (11), a second intake passage (4) fluidically connecting the surge tank (6) and the second port (12) and a third intake passage (5) fluidically connecting a cylinder and the outlet port (13), wherein a first state where the outlet port (13) is throttled and at least one of the first port (11) and the second port (12) is opened, or a second state where the outlet port (13), and at least one of the first port (11) and the second port (12) are opened, is selectively established.
