The evaporator (1) has an injection device (12) for injecting a substance that contains hydrogen peroxide into a housing (2). A heating device (8) evaporates the hydrogen peroxide. An opening (4) is arranged in the housing to discharge a mixture from a gaseous medium and the hydrogen peroxide from the housing. A longitudinal direction (L) of the injection device extends perpendicular to a plane of the heating device. An opening (11) is adjoined by a tube section (10) that partially extends in the longitudinal direction of the injection device that partially runs within the tube section. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) an arrangement for sterilizing containers with an evaporator (2) a method for sterilizing containers.
