<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a controller of a power transmission device for making smooth shifts by controlling the electric power of electric storage devices associated with shifts. <P>SOLUTION: The controller of the power transmission device includes a first electric storage device; a second electric storage device being excellent in electric power input and output characteristics than the first electric storage device; and a drive system that varies the state of transmission of motive power as electric power is generated or consumed. The controller has an electric storage device selecting means (step S2) for implementing, using the second electric storage device, the control of the drive system for varying the state of transmission of the motive power.
