The separator (1) has an insert (6) for a fluid line detachably arranged in a housing and holding cylinder shaped or rectangular magnets e.g. neodymium iron boron magnets, in the housing. The magnets are arranged at wings (8, 9). The insert is partially covered with stainless steel. The insert is connected with the housing in form-fit manner. A sieve fabric is arranged between the insert and the housing. A free cross-section between the housing and the insert is larger than an inlet of the housing. The insert is provided with a positioning projection and a retainer slot. An independent claim is also included for a device for cleaning a magnetic separator.
