PURPOSE: A computer system and a storage medium storing a memory use setting program are provided to efficiently use memory blocks included in a main memory. CONSTITUTION: A CPU is an arithmetic device configured to perform various processes. More specifically, the CPU reads from a ROM and runs a BIOS program(41) to check whether each kind of device, such as a DRAM has a defect. Moreover, the CPU runs the BIOS program to activate an OS(Operating System) and to control each kind of device. The CPU runs the BIOS program to perform a memory use setting process for setting the uses of memory blocks. The DRAM is the main memory of the computer system. A non-volatile memory is a rewritable and non-volatile storage medium such as a flash memory. The non-volatile memory stores use setting data(31) indicating the use of each of the memory blocks into which the area of the DRAM is divided by a certain length and operates as a use setting data memory unit. A ROM stores various programs run by the CPU, data to be used for running the programs and so on. The BIOS program is a basic input output system. More specifically, the BIOS program is activated using power supplied when the computer system is turned on and is a control program for controlling the OS, application programs, and data input and output to and from the DRAM and peripheral devices. A graphic controller generates graphics data as directed by the CPU and stores the graphics data in a memory block for graphics in the DRAM. Moreover, the graphic controller reads the graphics data stored in the memory block for graphics in the DRAM and displays graphics on a display device.
