PURPOSE: An imaging apparatus, a computer-readable recording medium having an imaging program recorded thereon, an imaging method, an authentication apparatus, a computer-readable recording medium having an authentication program recorded thereon, and an authentication method are provided to perform different types of authentication and implement an optimal photographing operation by detecting the location of a subject and acquiring position information. CONSTITUTION: An imaging apparatus(4) includes an imaging subject position detection unit(42), an illumination unit(44), an imaging unit(46), and an imaging control unit(48). The imaging subject position detection unit detects the position of the imaging subject. The imaging subject position detection unit detects the position of the user's hand, which is an example of the imaging subject. The imaging subject position detection unit includes a first insertion detection unit and a second insertion detection unit which is arranged at a position that differs from that of the first insertion detection unit. The detection results thus detected at these positions are transmitted to the imaging control unit, and are used as reference data based upon which the imaging method is selected. A detector determines the state or position of a bodily part placed by a user for biometric authentication. The imaging unit is a unit capable of obtaining biometric data from different portion of the bodily part.
