The method involves indexing a support (2) associated to a body element (1), where the support is provided without clearance in a first direction (Y) and with clearance in a second direction (Z) perpendicular to the first direction. A rear signaling device is placed on the element above the support by displacing the signaling device along a third direction (X) orthogonal to the first and second directions, and the support associated to the device is indexed. The support is finally positioned along the second direction, and the support is fixed on the body element. An independent claim is also included for a body element of a motor vehicle for receiving a rear signaling device and its support, comprising indexing units.
