PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To recognize a person's face and perform focusing. SOLUTION: A CPU 9 recognizes the person's face contained in an image based on a return value from a face recognition operation section 11 and sets an area containing the recognized face as an AF evaluation value calculation area. As a result of an AF processing using the AF evaluation value calculation area as an object, if not focused, the CPU 9 moves the AF evaluation value calculation area downward, sets a new AF evaluation value calculation area, and performs an AF processing to the newly set AF evaluation value calculation area.
