PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To decrease a discharge amount of unburned components (HC) at the start of an engine by suppressing fuel accumulated in an intake pipe at the upstream side of an intake valve when the engine is stopped from being discharged without being burned accompanied by the start of the engine. SOLUTION: After the start of the engine, a cylinder in which a piston is at a prescribed position is determined, and until the cylinder for starting fuel injection (initial injection cylinder) is specified based on the determination result, an intake valve of each cylinder is held in a substantially fully closed state. The opening operation of the intake valve is started from an intake stroke of the initial injection cylinder in which fuel injected from a fuel injection valve is sucked into a combustion chamber.
