<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress reaction between a protective film and an impurity gas, in a manufacturing process of a plasma display panel and uniformize discharge characteristics in the image display surface. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A manufacturing method of a display panel is provided with a sealing process in which a front substrate and a rear substrate are arranged opposed to each other interposing a barrier rib so as to form a space in-between, and thereafter, are pasted by a sealing material formed at the outside of an image display area. The front substrate has a protective film that contains magnesium oxide and at least one of calcium oxide, strontium oxide, and barium oxide. A drying gas is not supplied to the space, until the softening-point temperature of the sealing material is reached, and the drying gas is supplied to the space, after it has reached the softening-point temperature of the sealing material and until it reaches the sealing temperature.
