<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polyimide fiber having hydrolysis resistance, the use of the same and a method for producing the same. Ž<P>SOLUTION: This polyimide fiber consisting of at least pyromellitic acid dianhydride and 4,4'-diaminodiphenyl ether, has ≥10 and ≤100% elongation at break, ≥1.0 and ≤8.0 cN/dtex strength at break, ≥0.5 and ≤20 dtex fineness and ≥80% strength at break-holding rate after treating under a condition of 150°C/100%RH/20hr as the polyimide fiber, and has an elliptical form having ≥1.1 flatness of its cross section.
