A rubber composition containing a carbon black for incorporation into rubber, the carbon black being obtained, with a reactor having a combustion gas generation zone, reaction zone, and reaction termination zone connected with one another, by generating a high-temperature combustion gas in the combustion gas generation zone, subsequently spraying a raw material into the reaction zone to form a reaction gas stream containing a carbon black, and then rapidly cooling the reaction gas stream in the reaction termination zone with a means for multistage quenching-medium introduction to terminate the reaction. The rubber composition is characterized in that (1) the carbon black for incorporation into rubber satisfies relationships (1) and (2) 10<X<40 (1) 90<Z<100 (2) (wherein X is the toluene-extract light transmittance (%) of the carbon black taken out after quenching-medium introduction at the introduction stage located first from the raw-material inlet and Z is the toluene-extract light transmittance (%) of the carbon black taken out after final quenching-medium introduction) and (2) the carbon black (B) for incorporation into rubber is contained in an amount of 10-250 parts by mass per 100 parts by mass of a rubber ingredient (A) comprising a conjugated diene rubber. This carbon black-containing rubber composition gives a pneumatic tire having a high level of balance between rolling resistance and wearing resistance. |
