PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a production method of polymer particles excellent in dispersibility and polymer stability by which there is caused no aggregation during the polymerization even when an emulsifier is not used. SOLUTION: This production method comprises a process for obtaining an aqueous dispersion of polymer particles by soap-free emulsion-polymerizing a polymerizable vinyl-based monomer in an aqueous medium in the presence of a water-soluble polymer, a polymerization initiator and dissolved oxygen, in which the dissolved oxygen is contained in the aqueous medium in a content of 2 to 5 mg/L at normal temperature and under normal pressure and the polymerization is performed in a closed system using no emulsifier.
