PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a motor stopping device for the rotary mechanism of an endoscope not producing a twist in a rotation transmitting wire when an only merely reversibly rotating simple drive motor is stopped even if the drive motor is arranged to an operation part and drawing out a sufficient optical performance by rotationally driving the rotation transmitting wire by a necessary angle. SOLUTION: The mechanism is provided with: a spiral columnar member 20, which is obtained by continuously forming a spiral groove 23 to the outer peripheral surface of a column over a range of one or more rotations, and is connected across the rotary shaft 11x of a drive motor 11 and the base end shaft 9x of the rotation transmitting wire 9; a slide piece 25, which is arranged so as to be locked with the spiral groove 23 and subjected to slide movement along a guide 27 by the rotational operation of the spiral columnar member 20; and stopper means 28F and 28R, which obstruct the further slide movement of the slide piece 25 by the contact with the slide piece 25 subjected to slide movement to stop the drive motor 11.
