<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide halogen-containing silver powder in which the shrinkage percentage at the curing/heating temperature of resin type paste is high, and to provide a method for producing silver powder which can simply and inexpensively produce the halogen-containing silver powder. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A reducing agent such as formalin is added to a silver ion-containing aqueous solution such as a silver nitrate aqueous solution, thereafter, alkali such as sodium hydroxide is added thereto, a halide such as a chloride is added during the addition of the alkali, and a halogen-containing silver particle is produced so as to obtain halogen-containing silver powder. Alternatively, before the addition of the alkali, a dispersant such as gelatin and a defoamer are added to the silver ion-containing aqueous solution so as to obtain silver powder in which a halogen content is >0.1 to 0.5 mass%.
