<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a colored article made from iron, which has superior decorativeness and moisture resistance, and to provide a method for producing the same. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A clock hand includes a substrate made from iron and a colored layer formed on the surface of the substrate. The colored layer is a layer of iron oxides formed through the oxidation of the surface of the substrate made from iron. The layer of the iron oxides contains Fe atoms so that a ratio of Fe atoms in FeO to Fe atoms in Fe<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>is 55/43 to 100/0. As the ratio of the Fe atoms in FeO is larger, the colored article has more excellent moisture resistance. A more preferred range of the ratio of the Fe atoms in FeO to the Fe atoms in Fe<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>is 65/35 to 100/0, and a further preferred range is 75/25 to 100/0.
