PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical waveform regenerator and an optical waveform regenerating method that achieve optical 3R regeneration with simple constitution. SOLUTION: The optical waveform regenerator includes a pump light generating means of generating pump light having the same repeat frequency as the bit rate of input signal light and a center wavelength different from the center wavelength of the signal light, varying in intensity with time, and synchronized with the signal light, a signal mixing means of mixing the pump light and signal light with each other, and an optical waveform regenerating means of inputting the signal light and pump light mixed by the signal mixing means to a nonlinear medium and generating a nonlinear phenomenon between the pump signal and signal light to perform optical waveform regeneration of the signal light.
