PURPOSE: A presser foot device of a sewing machine is provided to automatically perform an operation for lifting and stopping a presser foot to an intermediate location, and to measure and memorize the intermediate location by detecting a fabric thickness with one operation. CONSTITUTION: A presser foot device of a sewing machine(1) comprises a presser foot unit, a presser foot motor(11), a control pedal, and a control unit(100). A measuring unit measures a fabric thickness of an object to be sewn from initial height. A correction value storage unit(104) memorizes a correction value added on the measured fabric thickness. A control unit controls movement of the presser foot in the memorized intermediate location when the presser foot is lifted while pressing the object by the presser foot.
