PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide background replacing device capable of unfailingly discriminating a subject and a background even in an image picked up under a simple photographing condition, and to provide a photographing system capable of being miniaturized and simplified. SOLUTION: The background replacing device includes: a picked-up image acquiring section for acquiring a picked-up image acquired by picking up a subject by a photographing device at a format indicating an image by the aggregation of pixels; a region discriminating section for discriminating a region of the picked-up image into a subject region and a background region by analyzing the predetermined first feature amount for each of pixels constituting the picked-up image; and re-discriminating section for newly discriminating a closed region into either a subject region or a background region on the basis of the degree of proximity of a second feature amount different from the first feature amount, for each of the pixels in the closed region, the pixels in the subject region surrounding the closed region and the pixels in the other background region other than the closed region, when the closed region is a part of the background region surrounded by the subject region.
