PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a focusing apparatus for performing stable focusing control for a subject that a photographer intends. SOLUTION: When feature parts of a plurality of subjects are detected, the focusing apparatus performs focusing by composing an AF evaluation value in an AF area (step S415) selected by a selecting method with an AF evaluation value in an AF area of a region different from the AF area corresponding to the feature parts of the detected subjects, and by moving an imaging optical system based on the composed AF evaluation value.
