<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a view confirmation device for a vehicle which can detect a status that a user such as a driver is difficult to be conscious of the status, and a status that an auto high beam system should be turned off. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The view confirmation device for a vehicle includes a camera 12 to photograph scenery ahead of a vehicle and a control means to change over and control a high beam or a low beam of a head light 18 on the basis of such a status ahead of the vehicle that is detected from the pickup image of the camera. On the basis of a quantity of a characteristic extracted form the pickup image of the camera, a detecting means is provided to detect the breakage of a lens of the camera or the breakage of wind shield glass arranged ahead of the camera.
