<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a mechanism for holding a roll which smoothly pulls out a sheet-like item from a roll in a storage box. Ž<P>SOLUTION: This mechanism is provided with a pair of holding devices 4 to be stored in the storage box in a state of being mounted on both ends 321 of the cylindrical body 32 of the roll 3. The devices 4 are shaped to fit the lateral cross sectional space of the storage box, and has a through-hole 41, where the end 321 of the body 32 fits movably and internally, at the center of the lateral cross sectional face thereof.
