<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lifting device capable of detecting an overload and the looseness of a wire member by a simple structure. Ž<P>SOLUTION: This lifting device 10 lifts a lifting body through the wire member 14 by driving a motor, and includes a load detection device 16 for detecting both an overload and a reduction in load on the motor. In the load detection device 16, a mobile body 17 which moves when the lifting body is overloaded or the load on the lifting body is reduced is assembled in a body 11, a first detector 19 is attached to the mobile body 17, the first detector 19, a second detector 20, and a third detector 21 are positioned on the moving path of the mobile body 17, the first detector 19 of the mobile body 17 is moved by the load on the lifting body, detects the contact with the second detector 20, and drives the motor, and when the overload occurs, the second detector 20 moved together with the first detector 19 is brought into contact with the third detector 21 when the moved distance of the mobile body 17 is increased, detects the contact of the second detector 20 and the third detector 21, and stops the motor.
