<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pure water production apparatus which performs an energy saving effect by efficiently controlling a supply water pressure of water to be treated to a filter by a pump according to the elevation of the TOC concentration of the water to be treated, and a method for controlling the pure water production apparatus. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The pure water production apparatus 1 includes: a first TOC concentration detection unit 40 for detecting the TOC concentration of the water to be treated before passage of the filter 30; and a pump control unit 50 for controlling the supply water pressure of the water to be treated to the filter 30 by the pump 20 according to the elevation of the TOC concentration of the water to be treated detected by the first TOC concentration detection unit 40. In the pure water production apparatus, the pump control unit 50 increases the supply water pressure of the water to be treated to the filter 30 by the pump 20 when the TOC concentration of the water to be treated detected by the first TOC concentration detection unit 40 is high and decreases the supply water pressure of the water to be treated to the filter 30 by the pump 20 when the TOC concentration of the water to be treated detected by the first TOC concentration detection unit 40 is low.
