<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cutting method and apparatus thereof capable of effectively using the effective blade length of a router end mill by successively changing the contact position of the router end mill with respect to an end face of a workpiece, suppressing abrasion and wear of a blade part of the router end mill, and prolonging the lifetime of a blade. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The cutting apparatus comprises a feed driving unit 8 for moving a spindle 6 in the horizontal direction, and a vertical driving unit 9 for periodically and vertically moving a router end mill E in the axial direction within a range of an effective blade length E<SB>1</SB>while moving the router end mill in the horizontal direction.
