<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently carry out dust suction in a sucker of a vacuum cleaner. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The sucker has a switching means 23 to individually open and close a plurality of suction channels 26 and 27 having openings in the underside of the sucker 6, a plurality of sensors sensing dust in the vicinities of the entrances of the suction channels 26 and 27, and a control means 24. The sucker is structured so as to increase the ratio of the total area of the entrances provided in the underside of the sucker 6 to the total area of the underside of the sucker 6 as much as possible and open the suction channel corresponding to the sensor sensing the dust and close the other suction channel. Consequently, the sucker permits an optimal suction channel to be chosen depending on the position of the dust.
