<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hydraulic pump device for a continuously variable transmission capable of securing high reliability while improving energy saving performance. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The hydraulic pump device 20 includes a pressure adjustment valve 38 for adjusting a hydraulic pressure in a first hydraulic circuit 25 to which hydraulic fluid is supplied with an electric pump 22 and supplying a surplus flow caused through the adjustment to a second hydraulic circuit 26, and a switch valve 40 for switching the supply destination of the hydraulic fluid with an engine pump 24 from the second hydraulic circuit 26 to the first hydraulic circuit 25 by a reduction in the pressure in the first hydraulic circuit 25.
