The present invention relates to a control lever for one-hand operation of ophthalmological devices, in particular slit lamps. The control element according to the invention comprises a control lever (2) that is rigidly connected to a support (1) or is connected thereto by way of a joint (3) with two degrees of freedom, and a control unit and actuators for all integrated operating functions, wherein for a control lever (2) fastened by way of a joint (3) with two degrees of freedom a measurement system for detecting tipping motions of the control lever and at least one measurement system for detecting the tension, pressure and/or torsional forces acting on the control lever (2) are provided. The signals detected by the measurement system or measurement systems are evaluated by the control unit and control signals are generated for the corresponding actuators. In the process, the additional operating functions of "base height" (Z1), "slit height" (Z2), "slit width" (Z3), "brightness" (Z4) and "filter change" (Z5) can be integrated into the control lever (2) in addition to the main operating functions of "right/left" and "forward/backward" (H1) and "initiate" (H2). Although the control element according to the invention has been developed specifically for single-hand operation of slit lamps, it is also generally applicable for other ophthalmological devices, wherein the function of the individual control knobs can vary.
