<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve retrieval in a substantial portion of an image of an event, a scene or the like. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A tag reading part 23 reads out additional information from an existing tag of an image file and acquires a photographing position, a photographing date, etc. as image attributes. An image analysis part 24 acquires a sort of an object, and when the object is a person, the clothes or the like of the object as image attributes by using an image analysis technique. In an additional information DB 28, a plurality of additional information candidates to be candidates of additional information to be added to an image, a plurality of reference attributes for respective incidental information candidates and a plurality of individual conformity degrees for respective reference attributes are set. In each additional information candidate, the total of individual conformity degrees of the reference attributes correlated with respective image attributes obtained from the image is found out, and a tag including the contents of the additional information candidate having a synthetic conformity degree of a fixed value or more is added to the image file.
