The method for cleaning welding seam compounds of a steel pipe, comprises introducing a cleaning device (23) from outside to a seam area between two welded tube pieces (9a, 9b), where the cleaning device is axially moved around the seam area, and simultaneously and continuously cleaning the seam area and then removing the detergent and the material removed from the steel tube.
