PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stably maintain a target engine speed over a long period of time in an electronic governor having no throttle position sensor. SOLUTION: In a method for controlling the electronic governor 1A, the target engine speed is maintained in such a manner that a throttle valve 32 is opened/closed through an actuator 13 according to an engine operating condition by an electronic control unit 10A with at least the output signal of an engine speed sensor 12 inputted. The electronic control unit 10A estimates a throttle position based on predetermined information by a predetermined technique and automatically opens/closes the throttle valve 32 in order to provide a target throttle position while using data on the estimated throttle position together with detected engine speed data as control data for providing the target engine speed.
