<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a VTR which facilitates search for a plurality of tapes and reservation of recording. Ž<P>SOLUTION: An information signal on a date and time or a time code generated by information signal generation means 2 and 3 is multiplexed on a video signal by a multiplexing means 7, recorded in a magnetic tape 11, and stored in a memory 20. The information signal read from the memory 20 is replaced by a character signal generated by a character signal generation circuit 19, and added to the video signal by an addition means 18 to be output, and a list is displayed by respective tapes. A user knows recorded contents without inserting/reproducing a tape into the VTR.
