<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a dust collection container from being detached from a storage part during the cleaning while holding a handle of the dust collection container. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The vacuum cleaner includes: a dust collection container-detecting means 63 for detecting that the dust collection container is housed in the dust collection container-housing part; a coupling means 53 for coupling the dust collection container with the dust collection container-housing part by using an electromagnetic solenoid so that the dust collection container cannot be removed from the dust collection container-housing part; and a control means 62 for receiving signals from the dust collection container-detecting means to control the operation of the coupling means 53. As the dust collection container is coupled with the dust collection container-housing part by the coupling means 62 when the power supply is fed and when it is detected that the dust collection container is housed in the dust collection container-housing part, the dust collection container will not be removed from the dust collection container-housing part and a cleaner body will not fall if the cleaner body is lifted up with a dust collection container handle during the cleaning.
