PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a device for forming spaces between containers (articles), with a small footprint and inexpensive device cost, for suitably forming spaces between the containers (articles) conveyed at irregular intervals in a single row. SOLUTION: In the space forming device for forming spaces between the articles conveyed by a conveyer 2, the conveyer 2 is provided with a tunnel-like pressure retaining chamber 3 and air-blowing devices 7, 8 for blowing a pressure medium such as air into the pressure retaining chamber 3 to blow the pressure medium into the pressure retaining chamber 3 from the blowing devices. Pressure of the pressure medium is generated by blowing the pressure medium according to states of spaces between the articles in a closed space formed of the pressure retaining chamber 3 and the articles inside the pressure retaining chamber 3. The spaces between the articles conveyed at irregular intervals in a single row are suitably formed by mutual pushing/extending force between the articles using the pressure of the pressure medium.
