<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus that is free of image deletion or a decrease in density by supplying metal soap to a surface of a photoreceptor to form a uniform protection layer, and also easily removing the protection layer. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A means of supplying a protective agent has a protection block 9 and a protective agent coating brush 8 rotating in contact with the protective agent block and the surface of the photoreceptor, and the protective agent block has metal soap and thermoplastic particulates, and is manufactured under a condition of (A-20)≤Z≤(A+5), where A is the softening point (°C) of the thermoplastic particulate and Z is the highest temperature (°C) reached during the manufacture.
