<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a polyphenylene sulfide fiber for papermaking, which has a low heat shrinkage percentage and excellent water dispersibility in an amorphous polyphenylene sulfide fiber. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The method for producing a polyphenylene sulfide fiber for papermaking includes heat-treating an amorphous polyphenylene sulfide fiber, obtained without drawing and heat fixing treatment of melt spun fiber, in a temperature range of 80-95°C.
