PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for increasing a bulk density of coal comprising adding a bulk density-increasing agent to coal under transportation in a transportation line of coal charged into a coke oven, where bulk density-increasing effects by the bulk density-increasing agent are effectively exhibited to permit an efficient treatment. SOLUTION: The bulk density-increasing agent is added to coal crushed so that a fraction of particles having a particle size of 3 mm or less accounts for at least 75%. As the surface area of coal is largely different between before crushing and after crushing, addition of the bulk density-increasing agent to coal having a surface newly formed by crushing and having a larger surface area permits efficient mixing of the bulk density-increasing agent with the coal surface to act on the same.
