An attachment for use with a pneumatic rotary impact tool (72), comprises a body (10, 12), Figs. 1, 2, 3, 5 (not shown), drive member (22), having an eccentric (32) thereon, an oscillating arm (34) carried by the eccentric, and an output member (40), which is rotated to drive a fastener by a pawl (38) on arm (34). Member (40) has a hexagonal bore (46), and teeth (45), which co-operate with pawl (38), and also a spring-urged stop (48). In operation, the attachment is connected to a tool (72) by lugs (67-69) on the attachment which engage recesses (80) in the tool. A hexagonal end (29) on member (22) is connected to tool (72), and the member is rotated. Due to the rotation of eccentric (32), arm (34) is oscillated, and member (40) rotates in one direction to drive a fastener connected thereto. To reverse the direction of rotation of member (40), the attachment is turned over, and hexagonal end (30) is connected to tool (72). Members (48), (34) may both be disconnected from teeth (45) by inserting a screwdriver between plates (10), (12) and forcing end (54) of stop (48) against arm 34. In a modification, two arms (238), (239), Fig. 8 (not shown), are supplied, and a stop (250) is actuated to thus disengage the required arm from output member (235), according to the required direction of rotation. Stop (250) carries a pin (251) which is moved in elongated slots 5 in the body by a pivotable lever (260), Fig. 6 (not shown). The lever is locked in the required position by a pin (264) which seats in the ends of a slot (265), Fig. 9 (not shown). |
