A machine for filling meat loaf moulds comprises a throat which is adapted to receive meat under pressure and which directs the meat into one or other of a pair of spaced stuffing horn units which project from the throat, in dependence upon the position of a valve member which closes one or other of the horn units, a pair of mould units each of which slips telescopically over the corresponding horn unit and moves off the horn as the mould fills with meat, there being means for controlling the movement of the valve in dependence upon the movement of the movement of the mould units on and off the horn units. The mould units can be carried on reciprocating carriages, the movement of the carriages actuating the valve control. Each horn unit may comprise a pair of vertically spaced stuffing horns, and the two units may be laterally spaced, the valve means being a gate which swings across the opening of one or other horn unit by actuation by a double acting pneumatic cylinder and piston, the supply of air to the appropriate sides of the piston being controlled by valves actuated by the movement of the carriage, such that only when one carriage is fully retracted does the gate operate.
