A burner bowl has a cross-channel 12 leading from the oil inlet 11 to a circumferential groove 13a, 13b and the igniter 14 is positioned over the channel 12. The fuel is conveyed round a pipe 21 under the burner bowl to preheat the fuel and an overflow tube 23 serves to cut off' the fuel supply in the event of ignition not taking place.
