The conveying device has a buffer conveyor (3), on which containers (5) are conveyed, and a collecting conveyor (4), through which the containers are brought in a predetermined distance to each other. The length of the buffer conveyor or the collecting conveyor is changeable. The buffer conveyor and the collection conveyor are coupled with each other by a connecting device (9). Independent claims are included for the following: (1) a packaging machine with a gripper; and (2) a method for lifting a container by a buffer conveyor in a conveying device.
