The device has a hollow profiled beam (3) with a smaller cross-section whose end area is inserted into an end area of another hollow profiled beam (1) with a larger cross section around a preset amount. A wall (11) of the beam with the smaller cross-section is fitted at an inner side of a wall (9) of the beam with the larger cross-section, which expands at its free ends. A wedge-shaped spacer (7) is pushed and supported at the expanded wall and at the wall of the beam with smaller cross-section. A position of the spacer and a pre-load are secured by connecting elements (13).
