PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organic-inorganic composite material, in which inorganic fine particles are dispersed in a thermoplastic resin matrix, having a high refractivity, a low dispersibility (high Abbe number), heat resistance and excellent transparency. SOLUTION: The thermoplastic resin contains repeating units of both formula (1) and (2). In formula (1): R<SP>1</SP>-R<SP>4</SP>each are hydrogen atom, an alkyl group, an aryl group, a substitution group expressed by -COOR<SP>5</SP>or -OCOR<SP>5</SP>; R<SP>5</SP>is an alkyl group or an aryl group; and m is 0 or 1. In formula (2): R<SP>11</SP>-R<SP>14</SP>each are hydrogen atom, an alkyl group, an aryl group, a substitution group expressed by -COOR<SP>15</SP>or -OCOR<SP>15</SP>or a substitution group expressed by L-X; at least one of R<SP>11</SP>-R<SP>14</SP>is -L-X; R<SP>15</SP>is an alkyl group or an aryl group; L is a single bonding or divalent bonding group; X is a functional group bondable to inorganic fine particles; and n is 0 or 1.
