<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a discharge lamp having a long service life by preventing an outbreak of cracks in a glass member provided inside a sealing tube, preventing leakage of gas from a light emitting tube, and preventing breakage of the sealing tube. Ž<P>SOLUTION: This discharge lamp is structured of: a discharge container 1; a columnar glass member 7 inside the sealing tube 12; a collector plate 5 made of a metal and arranged opposite to an end surface of the glass member 7 on a light emitting tube 11 side thereof; and an inner lead rod 3 extended inside the light emitting tube 11 in a distal end thereof and provided with an electrode 2 in the distal end thereof and fixed to the collector plate 5 by inserting it into an insertion hole formed at the center of the collector plate 5 on a rear end side thereof opposite to the side provided with the electrode 2. A base end of the inner lead rod 3 on a rear end side is projected from an end surface of the collector plate 5, and a metal body M is arranged between the glass member 7 and the collector plate 5. The metal body M has a clearance, into which the base end of the inner lead rod 3 is to be inserted, and the projection length of the base end of the inner lead rod 3 projected from the end surface of the collector plate 5 is shorter than the length of the clearance provided in the metal body M in a direction, in which the base end of the inner lead rod 3 is projected.
